Every 10 years the release of the decennial Census provides an opportunity for regions, counties, cities and neighborhoods to investigate the change that has occurred in their areas over the past 10 years. Understanding this recent change will help to identify continuing past trends or new emerging patterns. NOACA has performed an analysis of population and household data from the last two decennial Censuses (2010 and 2020) in order to understand the changes that have occurred in the NOACA region, at both the regional, county and sub-county level.

Multiple levels of geography have been examined to shape the story of change that has occurred throughout the region over the past 10 years. The entire 5-county NOACA region has been looked at to understand the change from a regional and county level. The Census data has also been analyzed at the jurisdictional level, such as cities, villages and townships, and at the Census Tract level.  These smaller geographies are used to identify trends at the sub-county level that are not readily apparent in the regional or county totals.

This data analysis exercise will help to inform NOACA’s planning work and share a story about the region that is based on data as opposed to anecdotal evidence.
