Program Purpose

With the generous help of volunteers, NOACA conducts Volunteer taking bicycle countsannual bicycle and pedestrian counts throughout Northeast Ohio in May and September. These counts are conducted to:

  • Gauge regional and local levels of bicycling and walking beyond what is already available from Census data.
  • Identify trends based on count data to aid the planning and design of multimodal transportation infrastructure, as well as the implementation and execution of encouragement, educational, and enforcement programs.
  • Aid in the prioritization of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure and planning projects.

Thanks to our May volunteers!

NOACA's Bicycle and Pedestrian Counts for the month of May have concluded. We express sincere appreciation to our volunteers for donating their valuable time to ensure this critical regional process was successful. Your contributions play a pivotal role in gathering the data necessary to improve infrastructure, connectivity, and safety throughout Northeast Ohio.

These counts provide critical data that helps communities measure non-motorized travel, identify infrastructure needs, and secure funding for safer, more connected, and sustainable active transportation networks. For Metropolitan Planning Organizations like NOACA, count programs fill critical data gaps and ensure equitable, balanced transportation planning.

We'll need help from dedicated volunteers for the next round of Bicycle and Pedestrian counts in September 2026. Be on the lookout for sign-ups in late August!
