History/Background: GCRTA‘s capital program is included in the NOACA SFY 2021 - 2024 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
GCRTA proposes to add eleven new projects to its capital program.
- HAYDEN PIVOT GATE EQUIPMENT: PID No. 118218 – This project is to install pivot gates to enhance the security at the entrances to the Hayden Garage Facility. Funds are programmed in 2023 to purchase and install the new equipment.
- CENTRAL RAIL ACCESS ROAD BRIDGE: PID No. 118219 – This project is to relocate the existing access road and bridge just east of the current location over the Norfolk Southern tracks. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the design and project administration costs. Funds are programmed in 2024 and 2025 for land acquisition, construction and force account costs.

TRACK BRIDGE REHABILITATION OVER WEST 117TH STREET: PID No. 118220 – This project is to rehabilitate the track bridges and platform over West 117th Street at our Red Line Station. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the construction and third-party construction management and force account costs.

TOWER CITY EAST PORTAL REHABILITATION PROGRAM: PID No. 118221 – This program is to rehabilitate the portals, tunnels and track structure for tracks 6, 7, 8, and 10 entering Tower City Center from the east. The portals and tunnels are in need of structural rehabilitation and the track bed, rail, ties, catenary and drainage are in need of rehabilitation. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the construction and third-party construction management and force account costs.

BROOKPARK MAINTENANCE FACILITY RELOCATION: PID No. 118222 – This project is to purchase an existing building and renovate it for use by GCRTA’s west side rail maintenance staff. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the acquisition, construction and force account costs.

RAIL COMPLEX UNDERGROUND CABLING: PID No. 118223 – This project is to replace the main electrical feed into the Central Rail Complex. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the construction costs.

LIGHT RAIL FIBER OPTIC: PID No. 118224 – This project is to install a fiber optic cable along the Light Rail system. It includes all appurtenances and connections to all stations, substations and other GCRTA facilities along the light rail. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the design costs. Funds are programmed in 2024 for the construction and force account costs.

STEPHANIE TUBBS JONES CANOPY REHABILITATION: PID No. 118225 – This project is to repair steel members and paint the canopy structure. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the construction and force account costs.

BARRIERS TO TRANSIT ACCESS STUDY: PID No. 118226 – This project is to study barriers to transit access funded by an Areas of Persistent Poverty grant. Funds are programmed in SFY 2023 for the study and project administration costs.

BROADWAY CORRIDOR TOD STUDY: PID No. 118227 – This project is to study land use, zoning and roadway configuration to maximize potential for transit-oriented development along the Broadway Avenue corridor. This is one of GCRTA’s priority transit corridors. Funds are programmed in SFY 2023 for the study and project administration costs.

RAIL SHOP MEZZANINE EXPANSION: PID No. 118228 – This project is to expand the existing mezzanine for new offices, training and computer areas in the rail shop. Funds are programmed in 2023 for the design and construction costs.
