History/Background:
The Veterans Memorial Bridge Connectivity Plan Project seeks to study alternatives to reopen the long unused lower deck of the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Cleveland, Ohio to pedestrians. This will include a study of re-opening the former streetcar level of the bridge as a public thoroughfare for cyclists and pedestrians. The connections on the top deck will also be reviewed to ensure complementary travel across the bridge. Improvements may include new entry points along with entry plazas, pavement striping and a cycle track across the lower level of the bridge, lighting and security cameras, security fencing, stair reconstruction, utilities, and site improvements. The project termini are West Roadway and W. 25th St.
