Proposed Source of Federal Funds: Diesel Emission Reduction Grant (DERG) Program
History/Background: The Diesel Emission Reduction Grant (DERG) program is supported with federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) dollars awarded by the Federal Highway Administration to the Ohio Department of Transportation. The program provides support to public transit systems serving Ohio counties, for the early retirement and replacement of older diesel transit buses.
The following projects were awarded funding through the DERG program in January 2020:
- CUY GCRTA 2020 DERG BUSES: PID No. 112317 - This project involves the replacement of five (5) model year 2005 diesel powered transit buses with five (5) new CNG powered transit buses. The estimated total cost is $2,453,927. The project will be funded with CMAQ funds ($1,644,131) and local funds ($809,796).
- LAK LAKETRAN 2020 DERG BUS: PID No. 112315 - This project involves the replacement of one (1) model year 2010 diesel powered transit bus with one (1) new diesel powered transit bus. The estimated total cost is $514,785. The project will be funded with CMAQ funds ($411,828) and local funds ($102,957).
