Title: Replace Traffic Signal at Washington Street/Snyder Road Intersection in Bainbridge Township

History/Background: On January 12, 2009, the Board of County Commissioners, Geauga County, Ohio approved Resolution No. 09-006, to replace a traffic signal at the intersection of Washington Street and Snyder Road in Bainbridge Township.
Current Conditions: Washington Street is functionally classified as urban minor arterial. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour. The average daily traffic on Washington Street is 9,300 vehicles per day with 2.9 percent trucks (2008 traffic count). Snyder Road is functionally classified as a local road.
Proposed Project: This project involves replacing the traffic signal at the intersection of Washington Street and Snyder Road in Bainbridge Township (location map). The estimated construction cost is $40,000. The sponsor requests eighty percent ($32,000) of the construction cost be funded with NOACA-administered Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds. The Geauga County Engineer will provide the non-federal share of construction ($8,000). The county engineer will request to administer the project following local standards. The project can be designed and ready to construct by summer 2009.
Staff Comment (Summary):
Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Team:
- This project is consistent with NOACA’s Connections 2030 Plan Goal #3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio 2004 - 2030 Goal #1 (Transportation Safety) and #4 (System Preservation).
- The proposed project is also on NOACA’s Tier 2 list of projects for funding made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. If ARRA funding is not available, the sponsor will pursue NOACA STP funds.
- Recommend committee and public review in order to obtain comments.
