History/Background: This project is a resurfacing project. The project is part of District 3's Urban Paving Program (UPP). The project will be funded with State Surface Transportation Program (S/STP) from ODOT District 3's pavement allocation matched by funds from the City of Lorain.
Current Conditions: US-6 is a four lane facility, with a 46' roadway and 3' paved shoulders for the majority of its length. US-6 is functionally classified as a principal arterial. The average daily traffic (ADT) varies between 8,600 and 15,490 vehicles per day (2000 traffic count) with 230 heavy duty vehicles per day. The speed limit varies between 35 miles per hour (MPH) to 55 mph. Lorain County Transit (LCT) has three fixed routes in the project area; Lorain/Elyria via Broadway (Route #2); Sheffield/Abbe Road (Route #3); and Lorain/Amherst loop (Route #41).
Proposed Project: The project involves resurfacing US-6 (Erie Avenue), from the Lorain west corporation line (WCL) to the Lorain east corporation line (ECL), in Lorain.
The ODOT District 3 production department will prepare the plans for the project. Construction would be scheduled for SFY 2004. Eighty percent of the construction cost will be funded from S/STP funds. Twenty percent of the construction cost will funded by the City of Lorain (as per UPP).
