Title: US-6 Bridge Repair in Lorain
Sponsor: ODOT-District 3

Proposed Source of Federal Funds: ODOT
History/Background: This project is included in ODOT District 3’s bridge program.
Current Conditions: US-6 (West Erie Avenue) is functionally classified as an urban principal arterial. US-6 is a four-lane facility with lanes 11.3 feet wide and sidewalks 6 feet, 4 inches wide. The width of the bridge is 59 feet, and the width of the existing right-of-way is 70 feet. The legal speed limit is 25 miles per hour (mph). Average daily traffic (ADT) along US-6 is 15,014 vehicles per day with 2 percent trucks (2006 traffic count).
Proposed Project: This project involves repairing the bridge on US-6, 0.04 mile east of SR-57, in Lorain. The work includes spot painting, piling and fender system repairs, electrical, mechanical, and control repairs, and building maintenance. The total construction cost is estimated to be $1,650,000. Eighty percent (80%) of the construction cost ($1,320,000) will be funded with Major Bridge funds (BR) funds. ODOT will provide the remaining twenty percent (20%) of the construction cost ($330,000). The project is expected to be awarded by February 2008.

- This project promotes NOACA’s Connections 2030 Plan Goal 3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio Goal 1 (System Preservation and Management).

- This bridge has a sufficiency rating of 43.5 and a general appraisal of 6 which is Fair.
