Title: Overhead Sign Improvements along SR-57 in Elyria

History/Background: This project is included in ODOT District 3’s Safety Program.
Current Conditions: SR-57 (Lorain Boulevard) is functionally classified as an urban principal arterial. SR-57 is a four-lane facility (two lanes in each direction). The average daily traffic varies from 33,380 to 37,490 vehicles per day (NOACA Lorain County Highway Traffic Counts, published 2004). The posted speed limit is 50 miles per hour.
Proposed Project: The project involves improving the overhead guide signing along SR-57, from I-80 to I-90 in Elyria. The estimated project cost is $300,000. The total project cost will be funded with State Surface Transportation Program (S/STP) funds. The project has an award date of October 1, 2009.

Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Team:
- This project is consistent with NOACA’s Connections 2030 Plan Goal #3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio 2004 - 2030 Goal #3 (Efficient, Reliable Traffic Flow).
- Recommend committee and public review in order to obtain comments.

- The volume/capacity ratio is 1.66 – 1.138 (level of service F).
