SR-2 Corridor Study

The Lake County Engineer initiated a Major Investment Study (MIS) of the SR-2 corridor in 2001 to address congestion and reconstruction issues in the SR-2 corridor. SR-2, also known as the Lakeland Freeway, was constructed in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Over the past two decades, Lake County’s population has grown and SR-2 has seen a significant increase in traffic.

The SR-2 Major Investment Study addressed:

• rehabilitation options in that area
• freeway access
• safety
• aesthetics and
• ways to minimize future maintenance costs.
