SR-18 Bridge Replacements in Brighton and Wellington Townships

 


On December 14, 2007, the NOACA Governing Board approved the following regarding this project:

Title: Replacement of Bridges on SR-18 in Brighton and Wellington Townships
Sponsor: Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)-District 3

Estimated Total Cost: $2,300,000
Proposed Source of Federal Funds: Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)

History/Background: This project is included in ODOT District 3’s Bridge Program.

Proposed Project: This project involves replacing bridge structures over the west branch of the Black River: on SR-18, 0.57 mile west of Quarry Road in Brighton Township, and over Charlemont Creek, .20 mile west of Pitts Road, in Wellington Township. The total construction cost is estimated to be $2,330,000. Eighty percent of the construction (C) cost ($1,864,000) will be funded with ODOT District 3 Preservation & Pavement Bridge funds. ODOT 3 will provide the 20-percent non-federal share ($466,000). The project has an estimated award date of October 1, 2008.

Staff Comment (Summary):
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Team:
  • This project meets NOACA’s Connections 2030 Goal # 3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio Goal # 1 (System Preservation and Management).
  • Move for committee and public review in order to obtain comments.
Regional Transportation System (RTS) Team:
  • The SR-18 – 3.11 bridge has a General Appraisal rating of 4, which is in serious condition.
  • The SR-18 – 4.86 bridge has a General Appraisal rating of 5, which is in fair condition.
  • This section of SR-18 is categorized as for experienced cyclists only on the Lorain County Bike Transportation Map. This project would make the bridges accommodate cyclists of all levels.

  • Lorain County Government supports this bridge replacement. State Route 18 has a high volume of truck traffic. Safe bridges are a critical element within our highway system in Lorain County. - Lorain County
