SR-162 Resurfacing

The Governing Board approved the following project for inclusion in the TIP by adopting Resolution No. 2000-078 on 12/08/00

Sponsor: Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 3
Estimated Total Cost: $1,076,000
Proposed Source of Federal Funds: ODOT

History/Background:
This project is included in ODOT District 3's two lane resurfacing program

Proposed Project:
The project involves resurfacing 13.95 miles of SR-162, from US-42 to the Medina County/Summit County Line, in Lafayette Township, Montville Township and Sharon Township.

The ODOT District 3 production department will prepare the plans for the project. Construction would be scheduled for SFY 2002. Eighty percent of the construction cost will be funded from District 3's State/Surface Transportation Program (S/STP) pavement allocation. Twenty percent of the construction cost will funded by ODOT.

Bicycle Advisory Subcommittee (BASC):

This roadway segment is rated on the Medina County Bike map as  "intermediate" between Lafayette to Wooster Pike, "experienced" between Wooster Pike and Wadsworth and River Styx and Boneta, and "unsuitable" between Wadsworth and River Styx.  The sight distance is poor in numerous places, and the speed limit is 50 mph.  Federal guidelines recommend a 4' paved shoulder to make a roadway with these characteristics safe for cyclists.  Providing this, however, would be beyond the scope of this project
