History/Background: ODOT District 12 is the sponsor of this project.

Current Conditions: I-480 is functionally classified as an interstate. The legal speed limit is 55 miles per hour. The average daily traffic is 148,750 vehicles per day (NOACA Cuyahoga County Highway Traffic Counts, published 2004).

Proposed Project: This project involves slope repair on I-480, east of Lancaster Road, in Brooklyn Heights. The estimated cost of construction is $385,500. Ninety percent ($346,500) of the construction cost will be funded with Interstate Maintenance (IM) funds. The non-federal share of construction ($38,500) will be provided by ODOT. The sponsor estimates the project can be awarded in SFY 2009.

Staff Comment (Summary):
Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Team:
  • This project is consistent with NOACA’s Connections 2030 Plan Goal # 3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio 2004 - 2030 Goal # 4 (System Preservation).
  • Recommend committee and public review in order to obtain comments.
Regional Transportation System (RTS) Team:
  • The section of I-480 between SR-176 (Jennings Freeway) and I-77 is congested with a level of service of F.
