NOACA Board Approves Four Projects for Major New Construction Funding

Today the NOACA Governing Board recommended the following four projects to the State-appointed Transportation Review Advisory Council (TRAC) for Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Major New Construction funding:

  • SR-57 widening, from the Ohio Turnpike to I-90 in Elyria and Elyria Township
  • US-42 widening, from Boston Road to Shurmer Road in Strongsville
  • US-20 widening, from Stoney Ridge Road to Lear-Nagle Road in North Ridgeville
  • US-42 widening, from Harding Street to Fenn Road in Medina
To be eligible for Major New Construction funding, a proposed project must be a new transportation facility and cost at least $5 million. NOACA’s Board-approved project list demonstrates to TRAC the investments that are most important to Northeast Ohio. TRAC may accept the NOACA Board’s recommendations or select its own list of projects for funding.

In addition to recommending major investments for Major New Construction funding, NOACA manages and prioritizes hundreds of roadway preservation and efficiency projects through the Transportation Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The Transportation Plan identifies federally funded road, bridge, transit and bikeway projects envisioned for Northeast Ohio over the next 20 years. The TIP serves as the implementation tool for the Plan, scheduling projects over a four year period based on available federal funding.

The Board approved adding 14 road and bridge projects to the region’s Transportation Plan and nine projects to the State Fiscal Years 2006 – 2009 TIP. The 14 projects added to the Transportation Plan may be reviewed on NOACA’s Web site.

The Board approved Walkable Communities workshops for five NOACA-region communities/organizations: Shaker Heights, Slavic Village, Chardon, Cleveland Clinic and Westlake. NOACA will conduct the workshops in partnership with the National Center for Bicycling and Walking during the week of October 16.

The Board approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad project. The MOU outlines the responsibilities of all planning partners, including NOACA’s role for programming the project in the region’s long-range Transportation Plan and Transportation Improvement Program.
