NOACA Regional Pavement Management System Receives National Planning Excellence Award

Transportation Planning Excellence AwardThe Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) is the recipient of a Federal Highway Administration/Federal Transit Administration Transportation Planning Excellence Award for its Regional Pavement Management System (RPMS). Unique in the State of Ohio, NOACA’s RPMS tracks, updates and evaluates pavement condition data on Northeast Ohio’s federal-aid roadway system.

“We’re pleased that the agency’s Regional Pavement Management System has received national recognition,” says Howard R. Maier, NOACA executive director. “The award reflects the diligent efforts of NOACA’s Regional Pavement Management Task Force, committees and Governing Board to establish a program that monitors and assesses pavement condition data. The program provides a beneficial service to Northeast Ohio communities, offering information about current pavement conditions and predicting how pavements will deteriorate over time. This information can help local governments identify the most urgent road repair needs and plan future improvements.” NOACA was one of twelve award recipients for the 2008 program, earning recognition in the Transportation Asset Management category.

Anyone can view the pavement condition ratings on federal-aid roads within the NOACA region (Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain and Medina counties) by visiting NOACA’s Web site. NOACA anticipates expanding the program in the future to include monitoring and evaluating other transportation assets such as bridges and transit facilities.
