History/Background: This project is listed in ODOT District 3 Maintenance Program.

Current Conditions: SR-162 (New London-Lafayette Road) is functionally classified as rural major collector. The average daily traffic (ADT) is 3,810 vehicles per day with about four percent trucks. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour. SR-162 is a two-lane facility with lanes eleven feet wide. The width of the bridge is 26 feet.

Proposed Project: This project involves replacing a bridge on SR-162, 0.34 mile east of Wadsworth Road, in Montville Township (location map). The work involves replacing a 5’ x 10’ single span, timber deck structure with concrete box, replacing a 4’ x 5’ elliptical pipe, an 18” corrugated pipe, installing graded shoulders and complete stream mitigation. The estimated total cost is $722,000. The estimated cost of right-of-way is $65,000, to be funded by ODOT. The estimated construction cost is $657,000. Eighty percent ($525,600) of the construction cost will be funded with State Surface Transportation Program (S/STP) funds. ODOT will fund twenty percent ($131,400) of the construction cost. This project has an award date of May 13, 2010.

  • This project is consistent with NOACA’s Connections 2030 Plan Goal #3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio 2004 - 2030 Goal #1 (Transportation Safety) and #3 (Efficient, Reliable Traffic Flow).
  • Recommend committee and public review in order to obtain comments.

  • This project would widen the bridge pavement from 22’ to 28’, thereby improving accommodation for bicyclists.
