Board Action June 9, 2006

At today’s NOACA Governing Board meeting, members approved adding 16 projects to Connections 2030, NOACA’s long-range Transportation Plan, making them eligible for federal funding. Ten of the projects were also added to NOACA’s State Fiscal Years 2006 – 2009 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The Plan projects include:

  • Installation of aesthetic lighting of the Charles Berry Bascule Bridge in Lorain
  • Construction of intermodal facilities at University Hospitals, East 93rd Street and the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland
  • Preliminary development, design and construction of the Cleveland Towpath Trail from Harvard Road to Steelyard Commons
  • Construction of a bulkhead and riverwalk along the Cuyahoga River from Front Avenue to Main Avenue on the East Bank of the Flats in Cleveland
  • A program to provide bicycle safety training to elementary school students in the Berea School System
  • Resurfacing Wilson Mills Road from County Line Road to Chillicothe Road in Chester Township
Board members also approved a second resolution certifying that the projects have completed successful project planning review, a quarterly review and comment process by NOACA committees, communities, staff and the public.

The Board approved an upgrade to the agency’s carpool ridematching software, which will be implemented jointly by NOACA and its sister organizations, the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study and the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, covering 14 counties in Northeast Ohio. The improved software, called GreenRide, allows users to register and match with other applicants online, easing the matching process for both users and program administrators.

The Board also agreed to support a proposal by the City of Cleveland to host the Republican National Convention in the year 2008. Cleveland is one of four cities being considered by the Republican National Party to host the convention.

NOACA staff distributed Connections 2030: A summary of the region’s long-range Transportation Plan, a full-color booklet summarizing the Transportation Plan, which was adopted by the Board in June 2005.
