Governing Board Action: July 11, 2003

The NOACA Governing Board held their July 11 meeting in Lorain County at the new Carlisle Township Fire Station. Carlisle Township Fire StationAt the meeting Board members approved a resolution adjusting the 2000 Census-defined Urban Boundaries for the NOACA region (adjusted urban area map-123 KB). The adjusted urban boundaries will be used to modify federal-aid classification of roadways within the NOACA five-county area.

Baker Associates, the consultant for the Lake County Engineer’s SR-2 Major Investment Study, presented an update on the study for Board members and guests. The SR-2 study area begins in Cuyahoga County at the junction of I-90 and SR-2 and extends to US-20 in Painesville Township. The study’s scoping committee has been analyzing various improvements to SR-2, a freeway originally constructed in the early 1960s.

Freeway reconstruction, lane additions, high occupant vehicle (HOV) lane additions, ramp reconfigurations, intersection upgrades, signal improvements, commuter rail development, Park-N-Ride lot additions and landscaping enhancements have been studied and discussed as part of the Major Investment Study. The Lake County Engineer will present a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) for reconstructing and improving SR-2 at NOACA’s Transportation Advisory Committee meeting to be held on Friday, July 18. The recommended alternative will be presented for consideration at the NOACA Governing Board’s August 8 meeting (to be held at the Medina Performing Arts Center at Medina High School). More information about the SR-2 Major Investment Study may be found at the Lake County Engineer’s web site.

NOACA staff related good news regarding the Agency’s Specialized Transportation Program. Northeast Ohio nonprofit social service agencies will benefit with the addition of 10 wheelchair lift-equipped vehicles to help the region’s seniors and physically-disabled get to jobs, medical appointments, banks and shopping centers. NOACA staff also distributed a newsletter (676KB) highlighting work activities and projects in Lorain County.
