About the Study: The purpose of this study is to provide low-cost recommendations that will improve safety for biking and walking on the upper deck of the Veterans Memorial (Detroit-Superior) Bridge, and nearby intersections. The goals of this study are:

  • Goal 1: Identify missing links and hazardous conditions for bicycle and pedestrian travel on both sides of the bridge
  • Goal 2: Develop conceptual, low-cost alternatives expected to improve pedestrian and bicycle conditions on the Veterans Memorial Bridge and connecting facilities.

What's Next?? The community planning process is complete, and NOACA staff is working with the City of Cleveland to finalize the planning study report.  In addition, the City of Cleveland has been working hard to implement the study recommendations this fall. Those recommendations include a new bike only lane, green paint, two stage turn boxes, and a bike signal all of which will be complete in the spring of 2018. Check out the progress of the project in a news article here. Bike Cleveland's blog posts have several great photos as well.  See more info in NOACA’s Bike/Ped E-Newsletter.
