Resurfacing US-6 in Hambden & Montville Townships

 

The NOACA Governing Board approved the following project as a candidate to be amended to the NOACA Transportation Plan by adopting Resolution No. 2005-012 and as a proposed amendment to the TIP by adopting Resolution 2005-013 on March 11, 2005.

History/Background:  This project is included in ODOT District 12’s pavement program.

Current Conditions: US-6 (GAR Highway) is functionally classified as a rural major collector. The average daily traffic (ADT) is between 3,600 to 3,850 vehicles per day (2001 traffic count). US-6 is a two-lane facility with a pavement width that varies from twenty feet (20’) to twenty-two feet (22’).

Proposed Project: The project involves resurfacing 7.27 miles of US-6, from the SR-166 (Rock Creek Road) to the Geauga/Ashtabula County line in Hambden and Montville Townships. The total construction cost is estimated at $1,100,000. Eighty percent of the construction cost ($880,000) will be funded from State Surface Transportation Program (S/STP) funds. ODOT will fund the 20 percent ($220,000) non-federal share. This project has an award date of June 2007 (SFY 2007).

Staff Comment (Summary):

  • This project promotes NOACA’s Framework For Action 2025 Plan Goal 3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio Goal 1 (System Preservation and Management).
  • Recommend project with the use of best management practices at stream crossings.
  • Information was requested from sponsor in December by the Regional Transportation System Team and has not yet been received. Comments will be made after the requested information is received.
  • Move for committee and public review in order to obtain comments with the understanding that the sponsor will make a good-faith effort to address questions and comments.
