Title: Guardrail Installation along Various County Roads in Geauga County

History/Background: On October 15, 2002, the Board of County Commissioners, Geauga County, Ohio, approved Resolution No. 02-171, to proceed with safety improvement projects. On December 30, 2008, the County Engineers Association of Ohio (CEAO) approved the Geauga County Engineer’s application for the use of Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for fiscal year 2009 to upgrade guardrails in Geauga County. On January 12, 2009, the Board of County Commissioners, Geauga County, Ohio, approved Resolution No. 09-005, to improve various sections of county roads by installing and/or replacing guardrail.
Proposed Project: The project involves the replacement of obsolete, below standard or bad condition guardrails and terminals at various locations along county roads in Geauga County (location map). In-house staff will design the project. The county engineer intends to administer this project under the “non-traditional program” guidelines. The estimated construction cost is $300,000. One hundred percent of the construction cost will be funded with CEAO/HSIP funds. This project has an award date of September 25, 2009.

- This project is consistent with NOACA’s Connections 2030 Goal # 3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio 2004 - 2030 Goals #1 (Transportation Safety).
