CSX Bridge Replacement over I-77 in Cuyahoga Heights

Proposed Source of Federal Funds: Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)

History/Background: This project is included in ODOT District 12’s SFY 2012 District Bridge Program.

Current Conditions: IR-77 is functionally classified as an interstate. The legal speed limit is 55 miles per hour. The average daily traffic is 126,150 vehicles per day (NOACA Cuyahoga County Highway Traffic Counts, published 2004). The CSX Bridge over I-77 (Structure No. 1806270) has a general appraisal rating of 5 (as of December 8, 2007).

Proposed Project: This project involves replacing and lengthening the CSX Bridge over I-77 in Cuyahoga Heights to provide more lateral clearance. The estimated cost of RW is $500,000, to be funded with 100% state funds. The estimated cost of construction is $29,000,000. Ninety percent ($26,100,000) of the construction cost will be funded with Interstate Maintenance (IM) funds. The non-federal share of construction ($2,900,000) will be provided by ODOT. The project has an estimated award date of January 2012.

Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Team:
  • This project is consistent with NOACA’s Connections 2030 Plan Goal # 3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio 2004 - 2030 Goal # 4 (System Preservation).
  • Recommend committee and public review in order to obtain comments.
Regional Transportation System (RTS) Team:
  • This section of I-77 carries a total of 5 routes and 130 buses (67south/63 north) on an average weekday, 3 GCRTA (76F, 77F & 90F) and 2 METRO (X60 & X61).
