Title: Replace Box Culverts on SR-301 in Congress and Homer Townships

History/Background: This project is included in the ODOT District 3 bridge maintenance program.
Current Conditions: SR-301 (Spencer Road) is functionally classified as a rural major collector. SR-301 is a two-lane facility with lanes eleven feet wide and aggregate shoulders one foot wide. The pavement width on SR-301 is 24 feet. The width of the existing right-of-way is 60 feet. The average daily traffic is 2,430 vehicles per day with 8 percent trucks. The legal speed limit for SR-301 is 55 miles per hour. The length of the bridge structure is nineteen feet.
Proposed Project: This project involves replacing a deficient structure on SR-301, 0.05 mile north of County Road 79 (Williams Road), in Homer Township in Medina County (location map). This project also involves the replacement of a deficient structure, located 0.35 mile south of Jeffery Road, in Congress Township, in Wayne County. The total construction cost is estimated at $799,540. Eighty percent ($639,632) of the construction cost will be funded from the district’s Preservation (highways & bridges) Program. ODOT will fund the twenty percent ($159,908) non-federal share. The project’s estimated award date is October 1, 2011.

- This project is consistent with NOACA’s Connections 2030 Goal #3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio 2004 - 2030 Goal #4 (System Preservation)..

- This bridge has a General Appraisal of 4 (poor condition), the sufficiency rating is 40.9 (sufficiency rating is between 0 and 100, with 100 being a totally sufficient bridge and 0 being totally deficient).
