“For four days this week I rode RTA to and from work downtown to Cleveland Heights. I could have driven two of those days to make my meetings more convenient but I took RTA! But, I also am a regular user of a monthly RTA bus pass and on those days when I have a meeting in another location I drive.” – Harry C.
“About Ohio Rideshare registration process – it’s unbelievably easy. It took me less than 5 min (4 exactly) to register, login and find a match. More people should use alternative ways to commute to work and who knows, maybe they will gain a friend in long run.” – Deltcho M.
“Was on a family vacation during the week of Commuter Challenge--- Stayed in Chicago--- Parked when I got there and did not move the car till I left the city. What I have been doing for my commute during the summer…I have a round trip of 60 miles a day West Cleveland to Twinsburg. Bus links would take almost two hours to get to work.... So once a week, Friday, I have been cutting off 20 miles a day by parking my car at the end of a bike trail that runs to SR 82. I bike down the trail and east on 82 to Twinsburg. Fairly good experience except through Macedonia shopping area where there are no sidewalks on one side and no bike lanes in the area. The rest of the bike lane on 82 is in good shape except for the area near the city park at the Macedonia-Twinsburg line.. the pavement is in disastrous shape here...” - Ed F.
“For Commuter Challenge 2007 Week, Earth Day Coalition instituted a one week telecommute program that enabled each staff member to experiment with telecommuting for one day. It would be great if we had the impetus to try this again, that is before next year! Congratulations on a great first year project – we look forward to next year's event!” – John M.
“My wife and I gave up the use of one of our cars even though we both work in two entirely different areas... She gets a ride in the morning by our son and I pick her up on the way back home… Not much to brag about but every little bit does help...”– Dan P.
“ I tried to help save resources like fuel, time and money, as well as reduce traffic congestion, air pollution, wear-and-tear on vehicles and roadways, parking problems, worker and client hardships, etc., but my idea was turned down because: ‘Clients can't come to my home,’ according to my manager. Four ten-hour days would save my employer 90 minutes of break time every week” - Anonymous
“I walked to a meeting that I otherwise would have driven to.” – Tina T.
"I worked a four day work week, thereby saving a round trip total of approximately 24 miles." - Kathi K.
"I biked to work one day, saving my car from traveling the approximate 40 miles (20 each way from Avon Lake)." Philip H.
"I typically drive to work, alone, which is not very cost effective nor environmentally sound. This week I will be taking the train in. I am even considering making it a permanent way of traveling to work. The plus side is that I get to catch up on my reading!" Pamela M.
“Our region implemented flexible scheduling in the past year. It gives employees an opportunity to schedule around day care, medical appointments, and other conflicts. Employees can also compress their work week. During the Commuter Challenge, two people in the Cleveland Office compressed their schedules so they had one day off. A third employee walked to work.” Mark C.
