The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) challenged commuters to get to work at least one day during Commuter Challenge, July 18-25, without driving in their vehicle alone and asked them to report their activities. The preliminary results show many commuters lived up to the challenge!
Reported trips during Commuter Challenge when participants did not drive alone:
- 266 trips, including
o 129 by transit
o 46 by bicycle
- 4,315.85 miles
Regional Results
By not driving alone that week, the commuters in northeast Ohio who sent us their results saved a total of:
- 225.79 gallons of gasoline
- $587.06
- 4315.85 pounds of air pollutants (enough to power nearly 92 homes for a day)

Congratulations to University Circle Inc. for promoting Commuter Challenge to its employees!

University Circle Inc. participants:
- Eliminated 43 solo commuting trips (14.3 percent of their total commutes)
- Eliminated 44 solo trips during the day
- Used every suggested alternative form of transportation (transit, bicycling, walking, telecommuting, compressed work week)
