Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Design Workshop

In May 2005 NOACA, Bicyclistin conjunction with the Ohio Planning Conference, sponsored a Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Design Workshop for persons interested in planning and designing bikeways, walkways and other bicycle facilities.

Michael Ronkin and John LaPlante, P.E., national experts in the field of bicycle and pedestrian planning, conducted the workshop. They addressed the following issues:

  • Basics of bikeway and sidewalk design
  • Human behavior characteristics to consider in facility design
  • Retrofitting the existing road system for bicyclists and pedestrians
  • Intersection design
  • Americans with Disabilities accessibility requirements
  • Transit design related to bicyclists and pedestrians
  • Signage and street markings
