History/Background: These sections of Bainbridge Road were last improved in 1994 and 1995. The proposed project has been reviewed by the Geauga County Board of Commissioners in open session.
Current Conditions: Bainbridge Road is functionally classified as a minor arterial . It is a two-lane facility with 11 feet wide lanes and 2 feet wide stabilized shoulders. The legal speed limit is 45 miles per hour (mph). The average daily traffic (ADT) varies between 2,300 to 11,000 vehicles per day (2000 count). The accident rate is 1.01 accidents per million vehicle miles (1997 –1999).
Proposed Project: This project involves resurfacing the existing asphalt pavement on 5.94 miles of Bainbridge Road, from the Geauga County line to Washington Street in Bainbridge Township and Auburn Township. The pavement width will remain twenty-two (22) feet with two (2) feet wide stabilized shoulders.
Eighty percent ($800,000) of the construction (C) cost will be funded with Surface Transportation Program (STP) funds administered by NOACA. The non-federal share of construction ($200,000) will be provided by the Geauga County Engineer. Preliminary engineering (PE) and right-of-way (RW) costs will be borne by the sponsor. The project will be designed by county engineer staff and ready to construct for SFY 2005. The county engineer will request to administer the project following agreement with ODOT.

If possible, pave the shoulder instead of aggregate. As this is just a resurfacing project, more than that is not recommended. However, when major work is done on this road, BASC recommends a paved shoulder of at least 4'. |
