The Air Quality Programs are dedicated to increasing public awareness of the health risks and the environmental impacts of ground-level ozone and fine particle pollution. Sign up for free e-mail advisories issued when pollution levels are expected to exceed the health standard. |

This map shows current 1-hour average readings. However, a 1-hour average in orange or red may not indicate a violation of the USEPA's health standard, which is based on a 24-hour average. View near-real time historical monitor readings for your area, and read daily pollution forecasts. |

Wheezer the forecasting groundhog is the official mascot of the air quality programs. Download his coloring book, find teacher and parent resources, or learn more about air pollution sources.

Ozone is created in the summer when sunlight reacts with emissions from vehicles, factories, and solvents. This pollutant poses health risks particularly to small children, the elderly, and people with respiratory challenges. Summer 2009 will be the 15th season for the Ozone Action Day Program.
 |
Fine particle pollution aka soot or PM 2.5 consists of microscopic particles in the air that result from car and truck exhaust, industrial emissions, dirt, dust, smoke, road salt, water vapor and many other sources. Learn more about the FP3 Program.
