Pavement Reconstruction on Approaches to I-480 and CSX Bridges in Cleveland

Title: Pavement Reconstruction on Approaches to I-480 and CSX Bridges in Cleveland

History/Background: This project is included in ODOT District 12’s 2009 bridge program.

Current Conditions: US-42 (Pearl Road) is functionally classified as an urban principal arterial. US-42 is a four-lane facility with a pavement width of 56 feet. The average daily traffic (ADT) on US-42 is 18,110 vehicles per day with two percent trucks (2006). The posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour.

SR-94 (State Road) is functionally classified as an urban minor arterial. SR-94 is a two-lane facility with two turning lanes and pavement width that varies between of 66 to 96 feet. The ADT on SR-94 is 17,080 vehicles per day with two percent trucks (2006). The posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour.

SR-176 (Broadview Road) is functionally classified as an urban principal arterial. SR-176 is a four-lane facility with a pavement width that varies between of 42 to 66 feet. The ADT on SR-176 is 19,200 vehicles per day with six percent trucks (2006). The posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour.

Proposed Project: The project involves reconstructing portions of the approach pavement to the I-480 and CSX RR bridges on US-42, SR-94 and SR-176 in Cleveland. The work includes pavement replacement, retaining wall repair, sidewalk, barrier, and fence replacement. The estimated construction cost is $4,400,000. Eighty percent of the construction cost ($3,520,000) will be funded with Bridge (BR) funds. ODOT will fund twenty percent of the construction cost ($880,000). The project is expected to be awarded in April 2008.

Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Team:
  • The proposed improvements meets Goal #3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) of NOACA’s Connections 2030 and Goal #1 (System Preservation and Management) of ODOT’s Access Ohio.
  • Move for committee and public review in order to obtain comments.
