Bridge Replacement on SR-301 in LaGrange Township

History/Background: This project is included in ODOT District 3’s Bridge Program.

Current Conditions: SR-301 (Lattasburg – Elyria Road) is functionally classified as a rural major collector. SR-301 is a two-lane facility with lanes 12 feet wide and no shoulders at the approaching roadway. The bridge structure is approximately 18 feet long. The width of the existing bridge is 38 feet and the roadway width is 34 feet. The existing pavement width of the approaching roadway is 24 feet wide. The width of the existing right-of-way is 60 feet. The legal speed limit is 55 miles per hour (mph) and the average daily traffic (ADT) is 8,190 vehicles per day with about five percent trucks (2005 count).

Proposed Project: This project involves replacing a structurally deficient bridge on SR-301, over a tributary of King Ditch, 0.63 mile south of Parsons Road, in LaGrange Township. The bridge will remain two lanes. The total construction cost is estimated at $459,951. Eighty percent ($367,961) of the construction cost will be funded from ODOT District 3’s Preservation (highways & bridges) Program. Twenty percent ($91,990) of the construction cost will be funded by ODOT. This project has an award date of October 1, 2009.

Staff Comment (Summary):
Plan and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Team:
  • This project meets NOACA’s Connections 2030 Goal # 3 (Preserve and Improve the Efficiency of the Transportation System) and ODOT’s Access Ohio Goal # 1 (System Preservation and Management).
  • Recommend for committee and public review in order to obtain comments.
Regional Transportation System (RTS) Team:
  • The general appraisal rating of the bridge is 4: poor condition. The sufficiency rating is 50 ratings range between 0 and 100), which evaluates four separate factors to obtain a numeric value which is indicative of bridge sufficiency to remain in service.
  • Widening the shoulders to 8’ will accommodate cyclists of all skill levels.

  • No comments; recommended for amendment to NOACA's Transportation Plan and TIP.
