Hambley Receives 2008 Ehrnfelt Award for Outstanding Regional Contribution
NOACA is pleased to announce that the 2008 winner of the Walter F. Ehrnfelt, Jr. Award for Outstanding Regional Contribution is Medina County Commissioner Stephen D. Hambley (View Commissioner Hambley's bio). The Ehrnfelt Award is presented annually to an individual in the public sector who has significantly contributed to the betterment of Northeast Ohio. Qualifications for the award include leadership, regional impact, cooperative attitude, and dedication.
“Steve Hambley certainly embodies the criteria established for this award,” noted Geauga County Commissioner and NOACA Governing Board President Mary E. Samide. “Steve is known for his extensive knowledge, constructive ideas and regional perspective, and his advice is widely sought. His contributions to NOACA are extensive – he has served in every Board office, including twice as president (2001 and 2006). He chaired NOACA’s Water Quality Subcommittee, which guided development of the region’s 208 Water Quality Management Plan. He currently serves on NOACA’s Transportation Advisory Committee, so he has had experience with both the transportation and environmental work of the agency.”
Ohio Representative Bill Batchelder added, “Steve Hambley has been an asset to the people of Medina County and the region. We are fortunate to benefit from his leadership, insight, experience and intellect, and I’m honored to have had the opportunity to work with Steve all these years.”
Hambley was selected for the award by a seven-member committee of former Governing Board members representing all five counties in the NOACA region and the City of Cleveland. The selection committee included:
- Lydia Champlin, former mayor, Chagrin Falls Village
- Honorable Charles L. Patton, Associate Judge, Cuyahoga Common Pleas Court
- David E. Anderson, Mayor of Willoughby
- Kenneth W. Roth, former Columbia Township Trustee
- Neil C. Hofstetter, former Geauga County Commissioner
- Ralph A. Berry, Esq., former Medina County Commissioner
- Erwin J. Odeal, former executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and 2007 Ehrnfelt Award recipient
“I’m truly humbled by receiving this honor, following in the footsteps of those who preceded me for this award,” said Hambley. “Special thanks go to my Medina County and NOACA Governing Board colleagues who have provided support in doing whatever it takes to get the job done.”
